University of Texas Police Academy

The University of Texas Police Academy serves as the center for training for all UT System campuses. The site was originally a federal government missile launch site, during the 1960’s, and later used for the UT Austin astronomy department for its telescopes. Also KUT, the radio station of UT Austin, installed a transmission antenna in the center of the site. The goal of the Police Academy is to provide a “Center of Excellence” for the purposes of learning and training officers for the UT System, as well as other law enforcement agencies across the State of Texas. CasaBella Architects had to meet many times to fully understand the training needs of the academy. Special attention was given to the KUT radio antenna and its guy wires to site new buildings, parking, and training areas that provided the clearances needed per code.
